This steroid was discovered in 1956 by an American doctor named Dr John Ziegler, in cooperation with Swiss pharmaceutical giant, Ciba Geigy, who were basically looking for a replacement for injectable testosterone. While searching for an oral form of Testosterone, they stumbled up the hormone structure of Methandienone, which is basically the discovery of a substance which can replace testosterone. Unfortunately, in 1982, about 30 years after Methandienone was first discovered, Ciba halted their production of the steroid because of its abuse in sports; many athletes suffered liver damage due to the coaches’ and athletes’ lack of knowledge on how to use the product, as well as its side effects. Due to its 17-alpha alkaline property, this product is especially toxic for the liver.
